  I have been in this Broadmoor area since elementary school and I understand things change over time like how Richmond has totally become somewhat unrecognizable now including the unpleasant staffing at Safeway for about the last 7 years or so. I noticed that there has been a significant decline in business during that time period, and as with all business run nationally, this Safeway is due to close it's doors in the very near future. Today's shopping was for me a surprisingly pleasant and an uplifting experience at the usually unpleasant Safeway!! As I was checking out at the self checkout, instead of dealing with the lack of personality from the regular cashier lineup, from the get go, trouble.... items wouldn't scan, unexpected item alarm, etc etc. The attendant for the self checkout came and went twice, three times and then four, so to make light of the situation, I had light heartedly commented with a smile, "I'm so sorry I'm totally making you work at this aren't I?", a friendly remark truly from the heart. Long story short, she caught on to my friendly humor and we played catch back and forth several times before she had noticed that one of the "buy one get one free" that I had purchased is actually buy 2 get one free.... which meant I get one for free. I know it sounds like why am I going on and on about such a small insignificant gesture.... but trust me.... Richmond, Thus neighborhood, everything has changed so much so that 'Caroline' (As her name tag said) helped us (mom and I) feel that warm, happy, genuine Canadian feel that was so pleasant before it went away.   This is a great store just right next to my house. I'm just having a hard time to understand why they started using the security. Sounds like the Richmond is not that safe anymore or what ???
